Universal & CV Joints

The universal joint (or U-Joint) can be used to connect the driveshaft to the differential or to connect two driveshafts together or in some cases to connect the driveshaft to the gearbox.

It is cross shaped with bearings at either end and allows movement in the driveshaft whilst still allowing it to spin.

A CV (or Constant Velocity) joint does a similar job (allowing power to be transmitted at a much more variable angle) but it does it whilst maintaining a constant rotational speed. It is essential in Front Wheel Drive cars.
